Intonation and Pronunciation Training for use in German as a Foreign Language classes
Phonetics/pronunciation training is often the poor cousin in language classes – many teachers say they have no time for it or regard the subject generally as unimportant. The fact is, however, that students regularly have communication and integration problems in Germany because of their pronunciation.
Have you ever encountered the phenomenon, whereby you have to concentrate extremely hard in order to understand somebody? Perhaps you become impatient and lose the will to continue the conversation. This can place a great burden on the complete process of communication (and integration). Communication problems often arise because of lack of knowledge on the part of the student about the rhythm and melody of speech, in short: the intonation of the foreign language.
Intonation in German is the basis for the formation and structure of the spoken word through accented, lengthened and shortened sounds. Intonation is teachable and learnable!
In these courses you will learn the basics of intonation in German and in particular the possibilities of disseminating this information in your classes. Through a relatively simple model, a complex system becomes communicable: with the help of body movement and listening exercises with musical instruments (CD).

Further possibilities:
- the teaching of word separation in German (glottal stop and terminal devoicing)
- focus on individual consonants (sch, ch, r...) through body movement
- long and short vowels
