Targeted intonation and pronunciation training in German as a foundation for successful communication
This seminar is directed towards non-German managers and executives who in a professional context must not only speak English but also German, be it in internal meetings, discussions, conversations with colleagues, presentations or externally as part of customer service and communications.
Have you ever wondered how much the phonetic side of language – the pronunciation – influences communication?
Would you like to avoid misunderstandings, express yourself better, control conversations confidently?
The incorrect use of pitch, for instance, can prevent you from achieving your goals in conversations with others, who in extreme cases may regard you as incompetent.
Recognising and using pitch signals: this quite clearly means being able to control your contributions to discussions, when to stop, when to continue, when to accept and when to give.
This course enables you to ...
- ... speak more clearly and understandably
- ... have an overview of the "typical German" pronunciation phenomenon
- ... know what kind of signals you present to German listeners with your pronunciation
- ... know how to utilise your pronunciation in a more targeted fashion
Specifically:
Accents, pauses and pitch
- What is important about my speech?
- How do I emphasise this in German?
- Who should speak when and how much?
- When should I maintain my right to speak or allow others to have their say?
Articulation, breathing and pace
- How do I speak clearer and more articulately?
Pronunciation phenomena such as
- Glottis (separation of words)
- Long and short vowels and umlauts
- The German "r" and other German consonants (as required)
Practise with texts and free speech/conversations; work place scenarios (with recording). Available as small group and individually tailored one-to-one courses.
